What this page covers
Watan Ledger is a business accounting and calculation app for sarafs, published by IOHEC Ltd, the legal entity for Watan Ledger, registered in England and Wales under company number 12595099. This page is the account and data deletion notice for the Watan Ledger mobile application and web app.
It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes everything we process and why. Section 10 of that policy, “Retention and deletion,” sets the retention rules; this page explains how to actually make a deletion happen and what to expect afterwards.
This page is publicly available and requires no account or sign-in. If anything here conflicts with the Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy governs and we will correct this page.
Before you request deletion
Please work through this short checklist first. Once deletion is completed, none of it can be undone.
- Export your records. Save the statements, receipts, balances and reports you must keep for your business, your customers or your tax and regulatory obligations.
- Settle open balances. Deleting your Watan account does not cancel, settle or forgive any real-world debt, hawala or customer balance recorded in it.
- Let offline entries sync. Open the app while you have connectivity so entries still queued on the device are sent before the account is removed.
- Cancel any subscription in the store. See Section 10 — deleting the account does not automatically cancel a Google Play or Apple subscription.
- Tell your team. If staff or partners rely on the same account, deletion removes their access to that ledger too.
How to request deletion
There are two ways to ask, and both lead to the same result. Choose whichever is easier for you.
Option A — from inside the app
- Open Watan Ledger and sign in.
- Go to Help & Support.
- Send a message asking us to delete my account and all my data.
- Confirm when we reply. We will tell you if we need anything else to identify the account.
Option B — by WhatsApp or phone
- Message or call +93 70 283 5071, the Watan Ledger support and privacy line.
- Say that you are requesting account and data deletion for Watan Ledger.
- Include the registered email address or Watan account code so we can find the right account.
- Confirm when we reply to you.
Include only enough to identify the account: the registered email address, the Watan account code, or the business name on the account. Never send your password, a bank credential, a card PIN or a mobile-money PIN. Watan will never ask you for any of those.
How we verify the request
Because a Watan ledger holds a whole business's records, we have to be sure a deletion request really comes from the account holder. Before deleting anything, we may ask you to sign in, to confirm the registered email address or Watan account code, or to confirm another detail already on the account.
We ask for the least we can. We will not ask for a password, a bank credential or an identity document unless a law requires it. If we cannot reasonably verify that the request comes from the account holder, we will explain why and what else we would need, rather than deleting another person's business records.
Data that is deleted
When a verified deletion request is completed, we delete or irreversibly anonymise the following data held on our servers for that account:
- Account and authentication data
- Full name, email address, account reference code, stored authentication credentials, active sessions and password-reset records.
- Business profile data
- Business or shop name, business phone number, city and address, and anything else shown on your statements and receipts.
- Ledger and transaction data
- Amounts, currencies, exchange rates, dates, notes, expenses, investments, balances, hawala records, customer and counterparty accounts, and staff or team records you entered.
- Attachments
- Receipt photos and other images you attached to a transaction.
- Referral and plan data
- Referral codes, referral-credit status and plan status tied to the account.
- Support history
- Messages you sent to Watan support, other than anything we must keep under Section 06.
- Operational logs
- Server connection and security log entries associated with the account are overwritten on their normal short retention cycle, and in every case within the six-month maximum.
Data that is kept, and why
Four narrow categories survive a deletion request, each for a stated reason and a stated period.
- Backup and recovery copies — up to six months. Deleting the live account does not instantly rewrite every backup tape or snapshot. Backups age out and are overwritten on their normal cycle, always within six months of the deletion. During that period they are not used for ordinary business operations; they exist only for disaster recovery.
- Records a binding law requires us to keep — only the record and period required. For example, an accounting, tax or anti-fraud rule may require a payment or billing record to be preserved for a set number of years. Where that applies, we keep only that specific record for only that period, and we will tell you about it when the law permits. We do not keep the rest of the account merely because one record must be preserved.
- Permanently anonymised totals — indefinitely. Aggregate counts and totals that can no longer reasonably identify you, your account or your business are not personal data and may be kept. They cannot be traced back to a deleted account.
- Data outside our control — governed by whoever holds it. A statement you exported, a receipt you sent over WhatsApp, a copy on a device we cannot reach, or records held by an app store, a telephone provider or a payment provider are not ours to delete. See Section 09.
We do not retain any part of a deleted account for advertising, marketing, profiling, credit scoring or sale to data brokers. We do not sell personal or business data at any point, before or after deletion.
How long it takes
- Acknowledgement. We confirm we received your request and tell you whether we need anything to verify it.
- Verification. You confirm the account details described in Section 04.
- Deletion of live data. Once verified, the account and its server-held ledger data are deleted or irreversibly anonymised as soon as reasonably practical.
- Backups overwritten. Backup and recovery copies age out on their normal cycle, and in every case no later than six months after the account closes or the request is verified.
Six months is the outer limit, not the target. Most of the work happens in the first stages; the six-month figure exists because rotating every backup copy takes time. If your request will take unusually long, we will tell you why.
Deleting some data without deleting your account
You do not have to delete the whole account to remove data. Inside the app you can edit or remove many records yourself — transactions, customer and counterparty entries, attachments, and business profile details — while keeping the account and the rest of your ledger.
If there is something you cannot remove yourself, contact us through Help & Support or the request line and say which data you want removed. Subject to applicable law, you can also ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, export it, or restrict how it is processed, and you can withdraw consent for an optional feature at any time. Those requests are handled the same way as a deletion request, including the verification step.
Ask for full account deletion only when you want the whole account gone. There is no way to reverse it afterwards.
Copies on your device and copies you shared
Watan works offline, so your device keeps a local cache of your ledger, your preferences and any entries waiting to sync. Deleting your account removes the server-held data; it cannot reach data sitting on a device or a file you already sent to someone.
To clear device-held copies, uninstall the app or clear its app and site data, subject to your operating system's own backup behaviour. Files you exported, and statements or receipts you sent over WhatsApp, email or another service, stay wherever you sent them and are governed by that service's own policy — delete those yourself if you need them gone.
Subscriptions and store purchases
Deleting your Watan Ledger account does not automatically cancel a subscription billed by Google Play or the Apple App Store, and it does not by itself entitle you to a refund. Cancel the subscription in the store that bills it:
- Google Play: Play Store → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Watan Ledger → Cancel.
- Apple App Store: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Watan Ledger → Cancel.
Refunds, cancellation timing and billing records for a store purchase are handled by that store under its own terms. If Watan bills you directly, tell us when you request deletion and we will close the plan as well.
Requests about someone else's data
A Watan ledger is a business's own record, and the business user decides what to enter into it. If you believe your information appears inside another person's Watan ledger — for example as a customer, counterparty or staff member — contact that business first, since they control that record and can edit or delete it directly.
Watan will help with a valid request where the law requires it and where we can identify the relevant account without exposing another user's confidential business records. We cannot delete one business's records because a third party asks us to, outside of that legal route.

Questions about deletion, or about a request already in progress, go to the same place. Please include the registered email address or Watan account code, and never send a password, bank credential or PIN.
